Counting down to Christmas with an Advent calendar is one of the best of the festive traditions. But what was the origin? The tradition can be traced back to the German Protestants who made chalk markings on doors or lit candles to count down the days leading up to Christmas.
The first printed advent calendars werereportedly published in the early 1900sin Germany however, advents complete with opening windows were not introduced until the beginning of the twentieth century. Pictures were printed behind each door, which then advanced to bible verses. It was not until 1958 that the Advent Calendars we know and love today were introduced, complete with CHOCOLATE.
Sales of Advent Calendars have rocketed over past years with new and interesting moulded chocolate shapes being introduced as well as other types of offerings. One thing is for sure, nothing can beat the all-time favourite Chocolate Advent Calendar.
